Chamber of the Giants is one of Giulio Romano’s most immersive fresco projects at Palazzo Te in Mantua. The room shows the fall of the giants through collapsing architecture, clouds, mythological figures and theatrical illusion.
The artwork is closely connected with Italian Mannerism, Renaissance fresco painting, mythological storytelling, architectural illusion and the visual drama of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Its walls and vault create a single overwhelming scene rather than a flat framed painting.
